Oops. Looks like Little, Brown's girl wonder author might have lifted some plot details from another novel. Kaavya Viswanathan scored a two-book deal when she was 17, but she may be handed a buyout check for that second book. According to an aggrieved Megan McCafferty, author of Sloppy Firsts (2001), Viswanathan's first novel How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life commits some youthful indiscretions with McCafferty's novel. The book's publisher says of Viswanathan, "I can't believe that these are anything but unintentional. She is a wonderful young woman."
Wonderful or not, Viswanathan is ditching the Harvard Crimson (yes, she attends Harvard), which is on her tail about the accusations. The lawyers have their highlighters out.
